The History of Beaver Stadium
Beaver Stadium was officially opened in 1960 to provide a better environment for college football than its original venue. That football stadium, known as Beaver Field, had been opened in 1909 and was across campus, making it both too small and too inconvenient to get to. The new stadium opened with a capacity of around 46,000, much better than its predecessor, and over the decades this figure would slowly but surely increase with each renovation and expansion to its current massive capacity.
