About The Tabernacle
The Tabernacle
One of the most famous and well-known indoor concert halls in Atlanta, The Tabernacle, has a long history of hosting fantastic concerts and an even longer history associated with the building itself. A former church, The Tabernacle today can host as many as 2,600 people for an intimate event that you’ll never forget!
The History of The Tabernacle
The Tabernacle opened its doors as a concert venue in 1996, but the history of the building itself stretches back more than a century. Originally constructed in 1911 to act as the home for the Baptist Tabernacle Church, the building became enormously popular with its congregation ballooning to some 3,000 worshipers.
Over the years, however, the congregation for The Tabernacle declined, and by the 1980s it was struggling to stay afloat, with most of the building’s revenue coming from a pair of parking lots next door. Finally, the church stopped operating in 1994. Two years later, it was refurbished and reopened as a premier music venue - as an expansion of The House of Blues property. Two years after that, it was renamed as The Tabernacle. The rest, as they say, is history.
