Without Gathers, the Lions managed to go on one of the most remarkable NCAA Tournament runs ever seen. It was a monumental accomplishment for a program like Loyola and an uplifting run for the program in the wake of Gathers’ shocking passing. While a small program like Loyola has never managed to replicate the success they had with Gathers and fellow All-American Bo Kimble, just a handful of games have made Loyola Marymount an important and unforgettable chapter in college basketball history.
Where Does LMU Basketball Play?
Since 1981, the Lions have played their home games at Gersten Pavilion, which is located on the Loyola Marymount University campus in Los Angeles. The venue also hosts Loyola Marymount’s women’s basketball and volleyball teams and sometimes serves as a practice site for the Los Angeles Lakers. Gersten Pavilion is more commonly known as Hank’s House in honor of the legendary Hank Gathers. In fact, “This is Hank’s House” is recited by fans before every game. For basketball games, Gersten Pavilion has a capacity of 3,900 fans.
